For this reason, we have implemented Windows Software Update Service (WSUS)

WSUS allows the network administrator to download and approve the security updates released by Microsoft at a predetermine time. This is generally considered to be advantageous to the larger companies / practices. A security update released by Microsoft may be 2 Mb, multiply this by the number of machines on your network, for example 50, and you can see that your ½ Mb connection would get swamped.

With Microsoft's WSUS set up and configured, the server downloads the Security updates and the machines (known as clients) download the updates from the server, drastically reducing the bandwidth used by the clients.

WSUS can be configured to run at any time and can even update the clients automatically and reboot their PC's as required. This is ideal as it will keep your practice up to date with no down time to your user's machine.
